Surah tersebut mempunyai 19 ayat dan termasuk ke dalam golongan surah Makkiyah. Surah Al-Infithaar juga diturunkan sesudah surah An-Naaziaat. Namanya dicatut dari kata al-Infithaar yang berasal dari kata dasar infatharatatau terbelah yang disebutkan di ayat ke-1 surah tersebut. Sebagian ayat dalam surah Al-Infithaar menceritakan tentang peristiwa-peristiwa di Hari Kiamat dan bahwasannya setiap perbuatan yang dilakukan manusia akan memperoleh ganjaran setimpal. Adapun pokok-pokok bahasan yang terkandung di dalam surah Al-Infithaar, yaitu Seperti beberapa surah yang terdapat di dalam Al-Quran, surah Al-Infithaar menceritakan tentang kejadian-kejadiaan dan keadaan di Hari Kiamat kelak. Selain itu, manusia juga tidak mempunyai kesanggupan untuk saling menolong di akhirat nanti.
